National Library welcomes two new Council appointments

The National Library of Australia has welcomed two new appointments to the Library’s Council, Ms Jane Hamilton and Ms Andrea Laing.

Ms Jane Hamilton has more than 30 years of experience in the education, government and property sectors, both in the United Kingdom and Australia. Until recently she was the Chair of the University of Essex Council, the Chair of the Committee of University Chairs in the UK, the Chair of NHS Property Services Ltd, a Non-Executive Director of the Government Property Agency and a previous member of the Board of Trustees at the Institute of Cancer Research. She has held numerous senior leadership roles in international firms including HSBC, ANZ Bank AMP Henderson Global Investors, Lend Lease and Jones Lang LaSalle.

Ms Andrea Laing has many years of experience in taxation, working at the Australian Taxation Office, as a Chartered Accountant and the energy industry. She is a part-time member of the Board of Taxation. Andrea spent more than two decades at Shell in various roles specialising in indirect tax, employment tax and tax policy. She was Head of Tax for Shell Australia for 5 years and led a global project on the tax ramifications of energy transition and climate change.

Ms Hamilton and Ms Laing have both been appointed for three-year terms. This announcement follows the appointment last week of Professor Sarah Holland-Blatt and the re-appointment of Dr Shane Simpson.
