Applications for 2026 National Library of Australia Scholarships open on 28 April 2025

PhD candidates are encouraged to apply for 8 philanthropically funded Scholarships offered by the National Library of Australia in 2026 to further their postgraduate research.

This year, the amount of financial assistance has increased. Successful Scholarship applicants will each receive $10,000 to support a residency at the National Library in Canberra, as well as supported access to the Library’s collections, increased borrowing privileges, a dedicated desk in the Library’s Petherick Reading Room and an allowance for high resolution digital copies of collection materials.

National Library of Australia Scholarships are open to PhD candidates who require onsite access to the Library’s uniquely held or extensive collections to advance their research. Subject to the conditions of individual scholarships, applicants may work in any field or discipline where the Library's collections have appropriate depth and breadth to support the PhD topic. This year, eligibility for the Scholarships has been broadened, with international students undertaking PhD studies at Australian universities now eligible to apply.
