Welcome to our new website

Published on 10 Dec 2024

What’s new

We’ve made it easier to find what matters most to you by creating new sections and prioritising what you love about the Library. This includes:

  • A whole new way to find out about our collections – the Discover area helps you dip into topics and formats to sample some of the stories in the collections.
  • A toggle option to search either the website or Catalogue that works across the whole site.
  • New plain language menu to make it easier to find what you are looking for.
  • Pared back design that highlights collection images.
  • Easy to find navigation links to Ask a Librarian, the Catalogue, Trove and the Shop.
  • A new meaningful website address to make it clearer to new audiences who we are and what we do.
  • A slight change to the Library logo to make it lighter and easier to read on mobile, and we’ve added an open book as a nod to our love of books and writing.

The new look and feel is being applied to the Catalogue, Bookshop, eResources.

Why did you change?

The Library is committed to providing access to our collections and services for all Australians. We've updated the website to make it easy for everyone to find the content that interests them.

The new website also has new options to make life easier for our diverse audiences, including more links to our enquiry services, Google Translate and a Light/Dark toggle to reduce eye strain.

Do I need to login to use the website?

No. You will be able to access the website without logging in. However, if you want to use items in our reading rooms, you will need to join the library and login to the Catalogue to order and use them in our reading rooms in Canberra.

You do not need to book tickets to visit our exhibitions or watch our events online.

If you want to book a ticket to an event at the Library, you will need to login to our online ticket reservation system, Sticky Tickets, and reserve a ticket.

Where is the webpage I used to use?

A guide showing where content has been moved to is available on the new website.  Older versions of the Library website can be viewed in the Australian Web Archive.
