Oral histories are collected by the National Library in order to record the voices that document Australia's social and cultural life. Although the Library does not actively collect realia, items may be selectively acquired, especially when they have high levels of visual content. 

There is a wide range of material relating to the effect of the First World War on Australia and Australians, ranging from the personal and intimate to the professional and remote.

The Australian and overseas printed collections at the National Library contain substantial material which can support research into the First World War.
